In earthquake disasters, school structures are disproportionally affected, often putting tens of thousands of children’s lives at risk. In Haiti, 2.8 million children lacked access to education after a magnitude-7.0 earthquake shut down thousands of damaged schools in 2010. In Nepal, more than 7,000 schools sustained heavy damage or collapsed following a magnitude-7.8 seismic event in 2015.
